Talk-Thru

Using your Mac as a Bluetooth hands-free device.

What is Talk-Thru?

Talk-Thru turns your Mac into a Bluetooth hands-free device. When you dial or answer a call in BluePhoneElite 2, Talk-Thru will route the audio from your cell phone to your computer's microphone and speakers. Talk-Thru will work with any phone that implements the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile. Consult your phone's documentation for this information.

What is Concurrent Talk-Thru and SMS?

Talk-Thru opens an audio Bluetooth connection to your phone. Some phones only support a single Bluetooth connection at a time. On these phones, Talk-Thru closes the regular connection in order to connect when a call is answered. Features like SMS sending and incoming SMS notification will not work without the regular connection. When the call has finished, Talk-Thru will re-establish the regular connection.

Can I use a Bluetooth headset with Talk-Thru?

For most phones, the answer is no. Unexpected problems may occur if you attempt to connect a Bluetooth headset and BPE2's Talk-Thru to your phone at the same time. The phone may decide to accept both connections, drop the existing connection, reject the new connection, or just freak out in general.

It is not currently possible to use a Bluetooth headset (paired with your Mac) as the Talk-Thru audio device; OS X 10.4 only supports a single Bluetooth audio connection at a time. This may change in future versions of OS X.

Can I disable Talk-Thru?

Yes. Use the Suspend Talk-Thru option from the Bluetooth Phones tab of the preferences to prevent Talk-Thru from routing a call's audio to your computer. For most phones1 BluePhoneElite 2 will still be able to dial calls and display caller ID, but the phone will use its own microphone and speakers.
